Even though the drama ended a month ago, I'm gonna play it safe and give a warning:

Right. Here it goes.
I probably would not have watched this, if I wasn't an Arashi fan. And indeed, I avoided it like the plague for a month, because my drama 6th sense told me that it'd be traumatic. Very traumatic. And when it comes to drama, my 6th sense is usually right. In fact, more often than not, it's spot on. (Which is why I still haven't finished ZaQuizShow and Shiroi Haru and a whole load of other dramas, but that's a different story.)
The first half of the drama kept me on my toes. The drug concealment case, the poisonous rice case... it kept me wondering if that was why Bito was in jail. Each time I thought that was it. Each time I was proven wrong. It was a relief, but it made me uneasy. In a sense, the 'crimes' Bito was involved in, or associated with, grew more serious, and the magnitude of the effect increased; it made me wonder what the story held for him down the road.
What I didn't expect was the murder.
Yes, he should've avoided Hayashi. And he tried. But it didn't work. Bito, like so many of us, wanted to think the best of everyone, including Hayashi. He thought Hayashi, deep down, was a good person, one who did not look at others with stigma. He thought Hayashi still had the virtue of treating others without prejudice.
But when he was proven wrong, when Hayashi called him "Philippine no yarou", that single virtue, Hayashi's single saving grace, and the realisation that Hayashi was no different to the others... Bito's beliefs, his faith in Hayashi was ridiculed in the highest degree.
The trial process that followed was unsurprising. Considering the grudge the Prosecution held towards the Defense, and the grudge of the police against Bito, they would have done everything in their power to make sure Bito was removed from society for good. I didn't expect the jury to come to the conclusion they did.
Sure, to kill another human being, whatever the reason, constitutes a crime. It is, in its nature, one of the most heinous crimes one can commit. But to sentence a man to death for killing another, or for whatever other reason... how is that different to committing murder itself? How can one justify a death sentence? How could one justify a death sentence?
Just because he has killed a man, and may be a threat to society, it's not a valid reason to end a life. I don't believe that those who have killed, for whatever reason, can remain unaffected by their actions. Whether they show remorse or not, the taking of a life is a crime. It's something that remains on one's mind forever. Whether the life was taken by a weapon, or by opinion, it makes no difference. That is why I don't agree with capital punishment. I'd rather pay for the criminal to be locked up for life, than to have to live, knowing that my opinion, my decision, took the life of another, no matter how undeserving or despicable they may be.
Which, I guess, is why I'm glad the ending wasn't so bleak. People like Itoh Kazuma, Shiori, and Hana-chan show how dedication to a worthy cause will reap rewards. Life should be about hope. And love is really the most powerful emotion humans possess.
One should fight to live another day, and live everyday to the fullest extent.
I'm probably stating the obvious, but just a few theories.
- Headmistress Rose was Mei's father ex-fiancee. I have a feeling that Mei's mother was also an ojousama... a couple of episodes ago Rose did mention something about Mei being like her mother--and the only logical explanation would be that they were in St. Lucia together, something like the relationship Shiori and Mei share now.
*tick* Ok, maybe Rose didn't say anything conclusive about her relationship with Mei's mother, but I was pretty close...right?
- Having read the manga... I have a feeling that the drama will end rather tragically, but perhaps won't follow the original plot--it seems too horrendous for a drama like this.
- Shinobu will reveal why he decided to serve Shiori. And the price of his service. As per the manga, I hope.
- Hongo Ojiisan is not quite as horrible as we think he is.
- Mei will probably end up with Rihito. Not sure what will happen to Kento, though. I'm beginning to like Sato Takeru now, on top of all the others...yabai!
以上。
I'm sure everyone knows this already, so it's more for my own reference.
Thanks sableheart for the heads up! (yes, it's massive flailing time)
Yatta! Ohno in a leading role on the small screen! With Toma! *dies*
A lawyer seeking revenge...I love that idea. *dies a bit more*
And his new hair! *completely dead*
After watching MMA #110 countless times, I wanted to try that nikujaga korokke so much...that I actually made it. It took me 2 days...2 DAYS! (Well, coz the bread needs to be crumbed...since I couldn't find premade breadcrumbs...)
Everything was fine until...I decided to crumb the brioche as well...and it burned as it was being 'dried' (i.e. toasted). So my croquettes basically failed...visual wise. But it tastes pretty good!
Since I've finished Hero and Yasashii Jikan, next series on the list is Yoiko no Mikata. Sho is chou kawaii~~~!!!! Taiyou-sensei is so completely different to Mimura, and mochiron, different to Bambi (from Kisarazu Cats' Eye, of course). He is so adorable! Yabai...I'm turning into a Sho fan...
I remember someone saying that they were jealous of Inoue Mao...well, Fukiishi Kazue has it one better. Here's a list of Arashi dramas she appeared in:
1. pPoi: the one with Yamapi and Aiba...she played a supporting role, a scary, kendo-driven school girl
2. Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo (The Files of Young Kindaichi): Jun as Kindaichi; played a blackmailed model who was forced to 'murder' someone
3. Yoiko no Mikata: supporting Sho-kun's bright and cheery Taiyou-sensei, she played Minako-sensei.
4. Bambi~no!: Jun again...She plays Eri, Ban's girlfriend from Hakata
5. Yamada Taro Monogatari: Nino and Sho as top-performing students in the Elite class, she plays their homeroom teacher Torii Kyoko.
It's not fair, ne? She has worked with 4 out of 5 members (not sure if she has done any butais...), I want my share of Arashi too! To see them in the flesh...such a faraway dream atm...
Anyway, it's back to my (hamburger-looking) nikujaga korokke...and whatever else I'm having for dinner tonight. And Taiyou-sensei! =D
Yep, it's that again.
So yeah, after the first request by Mum to listen to Arashi in the car, she's now willing to watch JDrama again. Only because she's finished the mountain of Chinese and Korean dramas, and running out of things to watch. So I'm going to start her on Haikei...and then HanaDan...then probably some 'fillers' like Liar Game and ProDai until Yamada Taro finishes.
Next target: Dad.
Target analysis: not likely that he'll turn into a fanboy--he has a certain dislike of Japanese things, and is constantly mocking everything related to Japan (excluding electronics). But he is also my main 'supplier' of Arashi CDs (I use 'supplier' in the loosest sense: he orders and pays for them). Since he hasn't rejected my monthly requests of ordering Arashi stuff, I'm taking it as a good sign. And I think Yasashii Jikan will do the trick.
So, I have a request...
Does anybody have Yasashii Jikan with CHINESE subs????!!!! If you do, or know of a site where I can get it (the full series, if possible) please PM me! Onegaishimasu!!!!
